The Firebird project has been highly active in recent months with numerous updates and releases. In July 2025, the project celebrated its 25th Anniversary, marking a quarter-century of development and community support.
Multiple sub-releases were issued, including Firebird 5.0.3, 4.0.6, and 3.0.13, along with Jaybird driver updates (versions 6.0.3, 5.0.9, and 5.0.10). Security remained a priority with an important alert issued in August for all old versions.
The community has been enriched with technical content, including articles on writing custom providers for external database access, comparing Firebird 5 with PostgreSQL 17, and migration considerations between these platforms.
Two significant books were announced: the 2nd edition of "Detailed new Features of Firebird" was published in August, and an upcoming book titled "Secrets of Firebird Query Performance" is coming soon, promising to be essential reading for database administrators and developers looking to optimize their Firebird databases.
The latest EmberWings Magazine (2025/3) was released in September, available now for Firebird Supporters.
